National Consultation on Sustainable Recovery and Inclusive Development

AASSREC is proud to partner with the National Science Foundation, Sri Lanka in convening a high level consultation aimed at developing comprehensive strategies to address the ongoing socio-economic challenges in Sri Lanka.

The National Science Foundation by its mandate is devoted to formulate and disseminate evidence-based policy recommendations for S&T including social sciences related issues. Therefore, the NSF attempts to formulate policy interventions for scorching issues in the country with a multidisciplinary approach to achieve better and sustainable outcomes.

As Sri Lanka navigates the challenges posed by the present crisis in the country, the National Science Foundation (NSF), Sri Lanka recognizes the critical role, the multidisciplinary approach could play in shaping effective policies blending all the sciences together to generate effective policies for recovery and inclusive development.

In order to facilitate a wider engagement of academia along with the policy practitioners, relevant government officials, experts, etc. a national consultative forum is being organized by the NSF under the theme “Sustainable Recovery and Inclusive Development ” which is scheduled to be held on July 31, 2024, in Colombo, Sri Lanka, as a hybrid event.

Five theme papers were developed by five expert groups addressing themes having a substantial influence on the wellbeing of the people namely Agriculture and Food Security, Health, Economic Development, Education and Social Development and Social Protection. The executive summaries of theme papers produced by these expert groups will be presented and opened for wider stakeholder views at this forum. Subsequently, the forum will generate evidence-based policy recommendations under these five themes to be forwarded to policy-formulating and practicing entities for implementation.

The Association of Asian Social Science Research Councils (AASSREC) is proud to have partnered with NSF in making this important event a success by mobilizing expert resource persons from some of the AASSREC member States who will be sharing experience from the region. Conclusions and recommendations to be surfaced from this national level event will also be shared among AASSREC member States.
