The second round of applications for the International Social Science Collaboration and Development Grants Program is now open!

The Association of Asian Social Science Research Councils (AASSREC) is calling for applications from social scientists for funding to support collaborative social science research activities in the Asia Pacific region.

Grants of up to AUD5,750 are available to support projects done by researchers from two or more countries who collaborate as part of an existing research program, or in the development or piloting of a new research project or idea.

Applications must be submitted by early- or mid-career (EMC) social science researchers from a low- or middle-income country proposing international collaboration with one or more people in another country or countries. At least one of the researchers (the primary applicant or the collaborator) must be from an AASSREC member country.

Applications can include research across all social science research disciplines and for cross-disciplinary research. However, priority will be given to applications focusing on one or more of the following themes:

  • Climate change, sustainability and human mobility
  • Public health and disaster response
  • Technology and digital transformations
  • Equity, gender, and indigeneity

The grant recipients of the first round of the program in 2024 are listed here.

The grants are being offered as part of AASSREC’s Boosting Social Sciences and their Contribution to Better Lives across the Indo-Pacific program; a partnership between AASSREC and the Global Development Network (GDN), managed by the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia (ASSA) and supported by the Canadian International Development Research Centre (IDRC).

Grant guidelines and application instructions can be found through this link, and applications must be submitted by 20 September 2025.
