Life in Lockdown: Learnings from Social Scientists
The Philippine Social Science Council invites you to a three-part webinar series entitled “Life in Lockdown: Perspectives of the Social Scientists”. With more than a year since the lockdown, look back into how it has affected the lives of Filipinos as they adjust to the new normal. This series seeks to recognize the works or contribution of social scientists during the pandemic and explore their role in solving the country’s most complex issues brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.
On June 15, 2021, PSSC held the first part of the series in partnership with the UP Population Institute focused on the rollout of vaccines. It also looked into the general measures being taken by the government to vaccinate the Filipino population and how social scientists perceive such measures. Speakers included Dr. Grace T. Cruz, Director of the UP Population Institute (UPPI) and Dr. Gideon Lasco from Ugnayang Agham-Tao (UGAT). The session was moderated by Asst. Prof. Michael Dominic del Mundo of UPPI.
On July 29, 2021, PSSC held the second part of the series in partnership with the Women and Gender Studies Association of the Philippines. This second webinar had a talk show format, and sought to explore the experiences of women and LGBTQIA+ groups during the pandemic.
The discussion featured Darlene May Casiano of the Negros Island Bamboo Network, Marie Rose Ramos of GALANG Philippines, Dr. Remedios Mondiguing of the UP Diliman Office of Anti-sexual Harassment, and Irene Tillah of the Noorus Salaam National Women Council, Inc.
On January 12, 2021, PSSC held the third part of the series, in partnership with the Psychological Association of the Philippines, focused on mental well-being during the pandemic.
The conversation was led by Dr. Marshall Valencia, Director for Research and Analytics of Premier Value Provider Inc., and Dr. Annalyn De Guzman-Capulong, Assistant Professor at the Department of Psychology of UP Diliman. The session was also moderated by Dr. Niño Jose Mateo, Vice President of the Psychological Association of the Philippines.
